Lefkoşa, Kasım 2025 — Kıbrıs’ta kış yaklaşırken, iki toplumlu sivil inisiyatifler kırılgan gruplar için hayati bir rol üstleniyor. Nicosia, November 2025 — As winter approaches in Cyprus, bicommunal civil initiatives are stepping in to play a vital role for vulnerable groups. From refugees to the homeless, from the elderly to low-income families, many face not only the cold but also social exclusion and economic hardship. Determined to change this reality, organizations such as the AFOA Community Kitchen, Mission Solidarity, Caritas Cyprus, the Cyprus Refugee Council, the Cyprus Friendship Program (CFP), and the Cyprus Peace and Dialogue Centre (CPDC) are working on the ground to provide both humanitarian aid and a daily practice of peacebuilding.

AFOA & Mission Solidarity Community Kitchen: Once a Month, Together
Lefkoşa’da faaliyet gösteren AFOA Community Kitchen, Mission Solidarity ile birlikte ayda bir kez topluluk mutfağı düzenliyor. Bu etkinliklerde yüzlerce kişi sıcak yemekle buluşuyor. İki toplumdan gönüllüler, yemekleri birlikte hazırlıyor ve dağıtıyor. “Yemek bizim aracımız; asıl hedefimiz güven ve karşılıklı anlayış inşa etmek,” diyor organizatörlerden biri.
Operating in Nicosia, the AFOA Community Kitchen, in collaboration with Mission Solidarity, organizes a community kitchen once a month. These gatherings bring hundreds of people together over a hot meal. Volunteers from both communities prepare and serve meals side by side. “Food is our tool; our real goal is to build trust and mutual understanding,” says one of the organizers.

The Cyprus Refugee Council defends the rights of refugees and asylum seekers, facilitating access to housing and healthcare. During the winter, it develops special support mechanisms for those stranded in the buffer zone.

CFP, iki toplumdan gençleri bir araya getirerek liderlik eğitimi ve kültürlerarası diyalog sağlıyor. Kış döneminde gençler, yardım kampanyaları ve toplumsal etkinlikler düzenleyerek kırılgan gruplara destek oluyor.
CFP brings together youth from both communities for leadership training and intercultural dialogue. In winter, young participants organize aid campaigns and community events to support vulnerable groups.

Cyprus Peace and Dialogue Centre (CPDC), kış döneminde yalnızca iletişim ve savunuculuk alanında değil, aynı zamanda insan hakları mücadelesinde de kritik bir rol oynuyor. Bir yandan Kıbrıs sorunu kaynaklı insan hakları ihlallerine dikkat çekerek mağdurların yanında raporlama yapıyor ve emsal davalar açıyor; diğer yandan çözüm sürecine katkı sunacak etkili öneriler üretiyor.
Tüm bu çalışmaları iki toplumlu mekanizmalar geliştirerek yürütüyor. Hem karar vericiler hem de tabandan insanlar arasında diyalog ortamları yaratıyor; böylece barışın yalnızca siyasi masalarda değil, toplumun her katmanında inşa edilmesine katkı sağlıyor.
The Cyprus Peace and Dialogue Centre (CPDC) plays a critical role not only in communication and advocacy during the winter months but also in the broader struggle for human rights. On one hand, it highlights human rights violations stemming from the Cyprus conflict, standing with victims through reporting and precedent-setting legal cases. On the other, it develops effective proposals for a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.
All of this is carried out through bicommunal mechanisms. CPDC creates spaces for dialogue between decision-makers and grassroots communities alike, ensuring that peace is built not only at negotiation tables but also across all layers of society.
Kıbrıs’ta barış, yalnızca siyasi masalarda değil; mutfaklarda, sokaklarda ve gönüllülerin ellerinde de inşa ediliyor. AFOA ve Mission Solidarity’nin ayda bir düzenlediği topluluk mutfağı, Caritas ve CRC’nin destek ağları, CFP’nin genç liderleri ve CPDC’nin hem insan hakları savunusu hem de çözüm odaklı diyalog mekanizmaları; kışın sertliğini dayanışmanın sıcaklığına dönüştürüyor.
Peace in Cyprus is not built only at negotiation tables but also in kitchens, on the streets, and in the hands of volunteers. The monthly community kitchen of AFOA and Mission Solidarity, Caritas and CRC’s support networks, CFP’s young leaders, and CPDC’s dual role in human rights advocacy and solution-oriented dialogue mechanisms transform the harshness of winter into the warmth of solidarity.
